IN-PERSON (Zoom Live) TRAININGS:

 

Our in person trainings (Zoom live) meet 4 hours weekly for three weeks. The goal of the training is to focus on the what, why, and how of passing the MFT Law and Ethics Examination. These are systematic weekly trainings that will assist you in strategizing, studying, and relaxing into the test. We cover CAMFT, NASW, and ACA Ethical codes. 

You will understand Confidentiality and Exceptions to Confidentiality, Privilege, Consent, and Professional Practice. We have practice questions and scenarios that will stimulate what you have already learned! If you join an in person training you have the support of others in the group that may be experiencing the same anxiety and anticipation as you. Don’t do this alone, come join us! This training is appropriate for Associate Marriage Family Therapists, Associate Professional Counselors, and Associate Social Workers. Trainees that are soon to become Associates are also encouraged to sign up.

 SPECIFIC LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• Identify what are the four allowable scenarios for disclosing confidential information 

• Name two types of mandated child abuse reporting

• Understand the difference between privilege and confidentiality and the steps to follow when deciding to release privileged information 

• Identify allowable age of working with minors without parental consent and the difference for trainees vs associates

• Define scope of practice definition for LMFT, LPCC, and LCSW

• Name at least 3 items that should be included in an informed consent for clients

• State when you need to disclose your agreed upon fee to clients and how it was determined 

• Identify at least one example where you would seek consultation from a peer or supervisor

• Identify at least one of your own values, beliefs, or attitudes that may interfere with  the therapeutic relationship and how you would handle it

• Identify two differences between a boundary crossing and a boundary violation

• Site at least 4 reasons for termination and best practices for conducting termination

• Identify advertisement rules for licensed and pre-licensed clinicians 

• Name three important aspects for record keeping to ensure client’s confidentiality

Our Online trainings allow you to work at your own pace! We have videos, PowerPoint, and recordings of all material used for the In-person trainings. Access to material for 3 months.

You will understand Confidentiality and Exceptions to Confidentiality, Privilege, Consent, and Professional Practice. We have practice questions and scenarios that will stimulate what you have already learned!

• Understand the legal mandates for confidentiality and exceptions to confidentiality 

•  Identify holder of privilege and comply with legal requirements regarding the disclosure of privileged information 

• Identify rules and guidelines when working with minors 

• Knowledge of laws that define scope of practice and scope of competency 

• Recognize dual relationships that may harm client and/or the therapeutic relationship 

• Follow laws pertaining to informed consent, fee, disclosures 

• Evaluate when consultation is needed and how to protect client’s information 

• Explore therapist’s values, beliefs, and attitudes to prevent interference with the therapeutic relationship 

• Understand boundary crossings vs boundary violations 

• Recognize and attend to crisis issues while minimizing impact on the therapeutic relationship 

• Recognize reasons for termination while offering consistent care if applicable 

• Learn new advertisement rules for licensed and pre-licensed clinicians

• Knowledge of ethical guidelines and mandates when engaging in telehealth services

FACILITATED BY:

Darlene Davis is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. She is the Executive Director for HOPE Counseling Center where she supervises trainees and associates. She has been teaching masters level students in counseling for over 16 years and loves guiding clinicians through legal and ethical issues they may experience. She is known as “the one to go to” in the Sacramento area for Law and Ethics information and wrote for the monthly “Legal Beagle” newsletter for the Sacramento Valley Chapter of CAMFT. She has served on the CAMFT Ethics Committee. She is an Expert Consultant for the Board of Behavioral Sciences. She also has a successful private practice where she serves individuals, couples, and families in living the life they desire.
