Welcome to The Place Within a non-profit counseling agency.
We provide a warm, safe, and caring environment to share your thoughts and feelings.

The Place Within was created to serve as a bridge and guide from the other-directed life to the inner-directed life. The agency was established in 1988 to meet the communities need for affordable counseling services. Our fees are on a sliding fee scale, which is based upon the client's ability to pay.

Our counselors are highly trained and supervised interns and trainees, whose desire is to facilitate and support your growth and journey from the other-directed life to the inner-directed life.

Tony Overbay
We offer low cost therapy based on a sliding scale.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Intern who enjoys working with parents, couples, singles, fathers and adolescents. Prior to returning to school for my Masters of Counseling, I ran two successful high tech companies. I spent my practicum working as a Marriage and Family Therapist for the Child Abuse Prevention Council helping children find a voice, adolescents navigate their way through young adulthood and worked with singles and couples in helping them improve their parenting skills and relationships.
I enjoy working with people who are looking to make changes in their lives, people who desire to live the life that they have always dreamed of living. I have been married for 17 years and I am a father of four. I write a bi-monthly humor column focusing on parenting for the Lincoln Newsmessenger and I am an avid runner having completed several marathons and ultra marathons. You can read more about me, and my practice by visiting my web site, www.tonyoverbay.com, or you can contact me via phone at (916) 300-7933.

Leah Myers-Martinez
We offer low cost therapy based on a sliding scale.
Hello, my name is Leah Myers-Martinez and I have been helping individuals and families as a paraprofessional for over twenty years. As a middle-aged woman having raised children I understand the complexities of parenting and relationship issues and am excited about helping people navigate the sometimes rough waters of family life. I am currently in graduate school, completing my practicum experience. The best part of my job is in creating a safe and supportive environment where a person or a family can begin or continue their journey into a healthier, more contented lifestyle.
I have experience working with men and women suffering from depression, past sexual abuse, domestic violence, pregnancy loss, and grief. If you have found yourself asking: Why can’t I leave my past behind? What am I going to do now? Can my marriage survive? Will my child be okay? Take a deep breath. Relax. Help is on the way…and I would like the opportunity to stand along side you. My schedule is pretty flexible and I have evening, and weekend appointments available.

Tina Moylan
We offer low cost therapy based on a sliding scale.
Hello! My name is Tina Moylan. I have been working in the mental health profession for ten years. I have a background in Recreation Therapy and graduated from The University of Phoenix with my Master’s of Science in Counseling degree. I am a Registered Marriage and Family Therapy Intern (IMF# 55738) and am currently pursuing licensure as a Marriage, Child and Family Therapist.
I have had several years of experience working with individuals with chronic and persistent mental illnesses including thought and mood disorders. I enjoy participating in a group setting, as well as, working with individuals and families. Having a family of my own has allowed me to find greater meaning in all the roles of my life. I believe that identifying and focusing on the unique aspects of an individual, or family system, encourages a balance that aides in coping with the stressors of life.

Alia Ball
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern working under the supervision of Darlene Davis, MFT License #40875. I enjoy helping adolescents, adults, and couples to improve their relationships and enhance their lives, by offering a place to come and express themselves in a caring, supportive, and non-judgmental environment. I work collaboratively with individuals, couples, and families to help them as they become more successful in achieving life goals.
Through the exploration and enhancement of the client's strengths, and the utilization of various techniques and styles, my approach is to engage the client in the possibility of a more fulfilling life and motivate them to find their own unique blend of happiness.

Dezaree Finch
Hello and congratulations on your first step to peace of mind. Through my education and 7 years of experience helping individuals and families, I have particular experience working with people who struggle with feelings of anxiety, self-doubt, or depression, a sense of sadness or hopelessness, feeling overwhelmed or stressed, difficulty with motivation, concerns about relationships with friends, family, or a boyfriend/girlfriend, difficulties with transitions, rape, sexual assault, or relationship violence, stress, trauma, or, even just feeling that something is wrong and not being able to define it.

You deserve the help that you need and I would like to help you receive your highest potential. I enjoy working with adolescents, children, couples, families, and multi-cultural individuals and families, drawing from a variety of treatment approaches to best meet each person's particular needs in a safe and supportive environment. I approach each person, couple, and family as a unique and respected unit. My work is based on my belief that relationships, in every area of our lives, past and present, greatly affect our well-being and the potential to live our lives healthy. Please call or email me when you or/and your family or/and partner are ready to make that step towards a healthier lifestyle and talk to someone who will be compassionate and non-judgmental with sensitive areas in your life.
